About Captain Redbeard

Captain Scott MacGregor grew up on Anna Maria Island, FL and spent his entire childhood boating on the Gulf of Mexico. His bus stop was a beach access on the north end of the island. Everyday after being dropped off by the bus from school he would walk down the path and go sailing on a Hobie Cat or a Sunfish. On the weekends he would go out to Egmont Key with his parents or friends on the family powerboat or sailboat.

Scott attended Massachusetts Maritime Academy for two years where he sailed competitively, and even went to the collegiate worlds!  He also did a semester at sea on a 565 foot training ship traveling for 52 days down to Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Cayman Islands, and back from Massachusetts.  The cold weather got to him so he transferred as a direct admit into the college of engineering at the University of South Florida.

After captain Scott received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Florida. He worked for 13 years as an engineer for several different companies doing mainly piping systems with associated mechanical equipment in the field and in the office.

In 2018 Scott got his 100 ton master license and started doing sunset charters in St. Petersburg for Sailing Florida.  January 2021 was his last day working in an office, and it has been a great decision.

Captain Scott is a problem solver and wants to make sure your vessel gets delivered.  He will ask for a recent survey of the vessel and will work to get items repaired while on the way delivering your vessel.  If something breaks along the way, which it inevitably will, he will work to get them fixed.  From burned out shore power cables to blocked AC raw water lines to impellers, he can usually repair it all.

He has his 100 GRT Master Captains' license as well as mate, OUPV, and has logged over 2,500 days at sea, and over 32,000 nautical miles in the past 5 years.  He also has First AID/CPR as well as International Safety at Sea.

He is an avid sailboat racer and spends his downtime sailing regattas. Most weekends you can find him on the water enjoying the beautiful Tampa Bay area with his wife and friends on their on center console powerboat or racing sailboats.
